had an el cheapo, small, open element filter from ebay.
I hated the look! bought a repop early big twin chrome ac cover.
looks much better! got about $50 tied up in all of it.

Not originally: the first Sportsters had a round air cleaner. The ham can has also been used on some BTs.

My '92 XL had a small round foam unit when I first had it, but it has an oval air cleaner with K&N element now. I like the look and it seems to suit the engine.

I have a round cover. I might've said this before here, can't remember, but I often think that a large cover no matter what shape goes a long way to hiding that very pretty Sportster engine.
