Default DO NOT BUY Drag Specialties DS-390077

After spending hours scouring the internet, specifically, XLForum, looking for the absolute cheapest ignition and coils relocation kit, I kept seeing one part number being mentioned, that was way cheaper than all the others:

Drag Specialties Part No. DS-390077 Bracket Kit to Relocate Ignition Switch 82-99 XL

It was only about $30 rather than $80 Canadian compared to some others. Less than half the price. Good enough.

What I think happened: This part number gets mentioned, even recommended a couple times on the internet, even in a couple threads on this forum...

No one who said they were going to buy it, posted any follow up to let everyone know if the part worked or not... So now I'm closing that loop so any future XL owners won't have to wonder if it's worthwhile.

Made a little video about it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_ZQoO4X0FM

Conclusion: The thing is. It DOESN'T WORK. This piece is really only meant to work in part with a specific Drag Specialties tank. If you're only looking for a ignition coil and relocation kit, and aren't changing your gas tank, DO NOT buy DS-390077

Not sure about any other retailers, but Dennis Kirk's page for it specifically states that it is "for XL 82-03 extended smooth-top QuickBob rubber mount gas tanks (part numbers H182025 and H182026)"

I found it in a local parts catalog and it didn't really say that. I just wrote a really conclusive/full detailed guide on it here: https://www.youmotorcycle.com/sports...tion-fail.html

I know this applies to very few people right now, but I just wanted to get this information out there because I know that someone just like me is going to read some of the posts out there on the internet, and think he/she is getting a great deal buying a kit for half the price, and then they're gonna end up wasting a bunch of time and a few bucks.

So... this is less for the casual XL-Forum reader now, and more for someone who's gonna put this part number in the search function in the future.

Sporty rider of the future, this is for you
