Default engine cylinder head temp sensor

hello all,

I am using a 2003 xb9r for a chop build have done wiring but had a second thought of adding a temp warning light. So found original connector from loom and cut it of. Connected it to the engine temp sensor at cylinder head then from there added a LED light, then from there put in a 10amp fuse then connected it the positive terminal, then there was "mucho sparko" as wire from positive touched frame!!

should I connect to the negative or am I missing something else.

Any help much appreciated

jimmy

Your choice to include a cylinder head temp sensor is none of my business, but, if the engine is no longer in the XB frame and no longer is running the EFI, the head temp sensor is a waste of time and energy in my opinion.

The XB frame really cut off the airflow to the rear head and the XB's ran a thermostatically controlled fan for this reason. You really don't have this issue and the bike should have plenty of cooling even in traffic in the summer.

The efi bikes change tuning at high temp so again a sensor is needed , but again this does not really apply to you.

Your call, but my vote would be to stick with the kiss principle.

sound advice mate, was just worried the bike would over heat and as this is my first build was unsure of how easily this can happen. If it is unlikely then happy days and i will not bother with it.

Thanks again

You are very welcome. Neither of my bikes has one and I live in the Phoenix area. It gets pretty hot here. steve
