my first impression on this is you probably will not get it clean enough.
harley cast has improved over time but they are still porous and can have voids. the only way to really clean them is split and in a bath of phosphate solution to remove the oil and needs to be agitated and warm to hot. after about 1/2 hour of this, a good electro-clean bath and a good oven dry, do not use compressed air unless it is filtered.
in times, past, when case were really junk, we used to do the above and coat them with red lead paint in a three step process or use gyptal. it is then that a real fix can be made by lapping the cases. now that said, it is rare but does happen, the case becomes relaxed and when taken apart actually worsens the situation, yep, a gamble.
