I started out the same way. I wasn't happy with the "Classic" mounted per the instructions. It was worse than nothing. But I had the Pirahna that didn't work on my R9T and nothing to lose so I started playing.

The only irreversible mod was to the Dart brackets. If it hadn't worked it would have just been more stuff on a shelf.

It was like the old days, late summer nites in the garage with the radio on...

I went through all that, getting a 'compact' screen to work on a Dyna: different windscreen plastics in the stock hardware, modified parts of the mounting brackets, made new parts, endless adjustments, …

In the end it worked, but I found out I preferred it without the screen anyway.

When it came to the Sportster (the '72', and then the CB), I was only ever interested in a little flyscreen. I tried three different ones, at different times, but when they didn't work with a reasonable amount of tinkering with adjustments, I called it a day.

Been there, this is one that finally worked.

I did give up at one point but after thinking about it a couple days I gave it another shot. I like how it turned out. It 's like riding with nothing except it gives smoother, less turbulent air flow. Less buffeting.

If the modded brackets hadn't worked I would have called it a day.

The National Flyscreen looks interesting with its' adjustability.

I tried the Classic Dart on my '02 for one riding season. I pulled it back off because of buffeting. I'm running drag bars and a 3/4 helmet with faceshield and the riding position just puts me in the wrong spot. I may try again if I change to mini apes (shoulder problems).

So was it generally fine on your upper body -- just buffeting your head?

Yes. The problem being with leaning forward on the bars it would position my head in just the wrong place.
The other issue is that I have my speedo mounted forward on the brow bolts to get it off the risers and it interferes with the shield there.

I still have it. If anyone is interested I can re-list it.
Fits the standard headlight/single instrument setup.

I'm thinking of fitting a Dart Classic flyscreen to my 2010 Iron. The idea is to take a bit of the wind off the chest in the colder months.
I'm about 5'7", the riding position is stock, mids & drag bars.
I've read the previous posts & opinion seems divided. I agree with Folkie that buffeting's intolerable. I worry about the wind buffeting my open face helmet & would do without the screen in that case.
Any ideas about my particular setup?

Q.D. Windshield and open face helmet here.

Windshield removed when riding locally.
