That's very interesting information. I'd like to use this for the wiki.

the ramps are steeper on the 497 cams then the W cams... with the HSR42 carb I can actually hear the intake valves slapping shut at idle through the air filter :-)

Im thinking about running 850-1 lifters but I also notice some lifters for sportster and TC engines with a larger wheel and the lifter body is less closed in at the wheel end... whats up with these? anyone know if its better to run the ones with the larger wheel?
take care and thanks in advance for any input

JAK
I'm running Andrews N4 (same as the .497) with the same lifters as I used in this post. Clearance was fine for those. If you were to go to a much larger cam grind, then I would want to check the clearance and make sure the lifter body doesn't hit the lobe.

I thought it worth mentioning that I put the 875-1 lifters into my 05 XL with SE 575 cams and the pump limiters in the lifter in combination with the smaller base circle of the SE 575 cam got me valve lash when the engine was hot... I removed the pushrods and slipped the tappet covers out... removed the lifters and pried out the travel limiters and installed the clips from my stock lifters... the valve noise was then greatly reduced hot...I do have a fair amount of cam gear lash and noise with these cams though... they have the course teeth between the cams and fine teeth to the pinion....but I would go with the 850-1 not the 875-1 on an XL ...

have a great weekend :-)

Thought I'd update this since I got a set of S&S Hi-Performance Lifters 33-5350. Below are the pics. Basically identical to the Harley A lifters and same oil metering valve as the Comp Cams and HD A lifter. Also update, the Comp Cams 850 lifters in my Evo have a little over 80k miles on them now and still going fine.

I have HD B lifters I'll get to eventually as well.

All this is old news. So is the vid.
Yeah, some are using the comp cam 850s, but the Johnson Hylifts are a much better alternative.
