Default Help Learning The Thundermax ECM with Autotune

I'm trouble shooting the Thundermax ECM on my 883. If there is anyone that has this mod on an 883, I would like to know what mods and what map your running.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Best advice I can give, if you are just installing it now, is to follow the instructions that are on the cd, think there is a quick instructions for sportsters on their website even.
If you are dinking around with timing or anything other than the auto tune I can't help. Below is summary of a/f autotune to give you idea how fast and easy it is.

Instructions walk you through so you load the correct base map (series of questions you answer, then next step is to initialize I believe (has to be done after install or after everytime battery is disconnected and reconnected to the bike), then take for a ride, after ride, read current map and adjustments, read learned adjustments, write learned adjustments, then save as.

After next ride do the same, read current map and adjustments, read learned adj, write learned adjust, save as. Can do it after the next ride as well.
What that is doing is setting the adjustments as the new base settings.
It can only adjust a/f ratio within so much %, so by setting the adjustment as the new base setting it's getting you where you need to be.
Hope that makes sense.

Their are only two maps for the 883, the 416 and the 547, ive ran both and autotuned three times at least per map over 1000 miles of riding on each map(80 or more miles a day keeps the doc. away). mods include hurricane flow ac, lsr 2-1, se plugs, se wires. 547 runs rich after hard throttle, leaves pipe black after about 200 miles the bike tops out at 118 mph with this map, idle seems rough. Zippers tech said autotuned map looks great (547) and to use it. the 416 idles better no fuel smell, no black pipes, seems to have better mid torque but the bike tops out at 106mph and the gas millage is much better 50-55 instead of 35-40 with the 547 map. i want to gather the info to confidently build a custom map, but i dont know what advers affects it will have on the way the system opperates as a whole. i would love to find a dyno tech that i can bring it to, one that knows smartlink and has worked with it. neither the 416 or the 547 are designed for my set up. I ran the 416 before i installed the lsr 2-1 pipes, running stock pipes the bike pegged the speedo over 120mph on cold nights. it dident have the jerk off the line like it does now tho.

thanks

I would save learned setting much sooner than that, like every 100-150 miles and make sure to do both town driving and highway, and mix that up with nice and easy driving up to your aggressive. I've autotuned after just 50 miles of driving like that and it made big difference.
Advantage of doing it 100 versus 1000 is you are putting less incorrect tuned miles on and reaching a good tune much sooner.

CARNOLD,

You have asked allot of questions and I am at the end of my lunch so I will just touch a few.

If you want to compare your 2 maps, open the software twice with #416 in one and #547 in the other. Put them on your computer screen side by side. A big monitor helps. Use the parts you like from both maps to create one for your bike. You can modify one while looking at the other. You probably can copy one and paste in the other with the shortcut keys, but I have only tried it from one map page to another within the same map. Look in the Help Manual or I think F1 or F2 describes the the shortcuts. (if you make changes while hooked to the bike you can avoid initializing, just like Automapping).

For the underlined above: Compare your AFR and timing at WFO. Ya gotta bet if it runs better in cold weather that the AFR is rich at WFO.

Disclaimer: AFR settings are best adjusted on a dyno.

Out of time, Frank

Thanks for the help gentlemen,
Frank it seems that you have worked with the system before. I'd like to run some ideas by you. I believe that my problems stem from that fact that these maps are not set up for 2-1 exhaust, Should I use timing charts (timing vs. TPS, timing vs. RPM) from a 1200 map that has similiar mods? Although it would suck to pay for a dyno tune, does anybody know someone that builds custom maps for the thundermax system that is with in riding distance from missouri ? im in joplin.

Once again thanks for any ideas in advance. I really love the system, just frusterated with the fact that there is no map for my mods.

07 and up 883's use the same stock cams as 1200's
