Default Engine was always SILENT, then put in Mobil 1 syn.....

I am seriously bummed out guys.... I bought my bike at the beginning of summer from BushTec where I work. They had serviced it before I bought it, but I didnt think to ask them what oil they used. I put about 4000 miles on and changed the oil 3 days ago. I mean my bike was smooooooth for a rigid. Ive rode some that rattled my teeth. Never any noise under the seat anywhere. Now im almost afraid to ride it. Theirs no knocking or anything, but its chattery as hell and the primary whirrs (Mobil one 75/90 syn gear oil) I had to tighten my primary slightly during service, but have since loosened it back to where it was. I use my bike as primary transportation, and plan on putting atleast 200 miles on tomorrow. Im debating getting some Lucas syn stabilizer to see if it will quiet it down. Lot of smart guys on here, and a lot of mixed reviews. Just spent $70 on an oil change, but will do it again in a heartbeat if it will quiet it down. Any advice??

Try a couple squirts of Lucas, it can't hurt at all. Its either an odd coincidence or something else changed at the same time. Sounds almost like too tight a chain.

Recheck the primary chain , Mobil didn't make it noisy , that gear oil sounds to thick for a sporty too

It had a little slack when releasing the clutch into first since I had bought it. Tightening the primary made a big difference. Travel is within spec, 1/4 to 3/8. Which ive since loosened back to what it was. Lot of guys on here claim to have noisy engines, but I hate it. And alot of them started after changing oil brands.

The whirring isnt as prominent as it was since I slacked it back. Pretty sure I had it a little tight. But the right side, is another story. Its low under the jugs, not up in the rocker boxes. Started about 100 miles after change.

Find out what BushTec used and change the oil. Personally speaking, I LIKE dino oil. I'm not saying synth is bad but for these old tractor motors my choice is always good, old-fashioned oil. The greener the better! Remember green oil and those big, pointy oilcan spouts?

HD makes a real nice trans/primary fluid. I think it's called Formula+.

Could it be a failing connecting rod on the crank? Is it coming low in the front jug?

What oil filter did you use?

Which Mobil1 oil did you use?

Mobil 1 is a good oil and has shown low wear numbers in the Sportster engines. I would not worry too much about the increased noise.
I wouldn't use any additive with the Mobil1.

The Mobil 1 75w-90 is about the same viscosity as a 40 weight motor oil, that would be a little thinner than the 50 weight Formula+ but should still provide all the lubrication / protection your primary and transmission need.

If you really want quiet, try the Red Line 20w-50 Motorcycle oil, my engine is much quieter with that oil compared to the HD SYN3 I had in it before.

Ah! I also love the Kendall juice for my motor. Selling now under the Brad Penn brand. ATF IIIH in the primary and Green Motorcycle VTwin 20W50 in the engine; slick and half priced.
