Pre 04 pistons in later motor?
Just looking at the Wiseco K1661 flat tops but they're listed for 88-03 motors only. Any reason why they couldn't be used in a 2006 1200 motor? Are they longer skirts - clearance issues with the cooling jets?

DITTO.
the 04 and up use a completely different bottom end.. so those parts aren't as interchangeable as the upper end stuff. some exceptions..
however, the piston squirters are 04+

Just off the phone to Wiseco. Their tech said that the skirt length is 1.979" on the 88-03 pistons and 1.967" on the 04 onwards. Might be a case of just popping them on the milling machine and taking off 0.020" ...

Why don't you just buy the correct pistons? You haven't spent any money yet.

I can source Wiseco, SE or KB pistons easily but neither Wiseco nor SE do a flat top for 04 onwards and I refuse to use KB.
