Don't you love it when the government thinks it should do our thinking for us? That was how Hitler took over Germany in the first half of the 20th century. Control our health and take away our home defenses. There is a reason that our constitution was so well written right after we decided we weren't going to be a colony of our first Big Brother and be taxed without representation, not to mention having to house their armed forces without our permission.
I'm done. I'm getting off my soap box now.

Back to motorcycles, I love my 2005 XL because it is still mostly primitive. It vents to the atmosphere and most of the repairs and maintenance can be done by a shade tree mechanic.

I kind of like the vacuum petcock, it saves wear and tear on the seals.
Unfortunately, it's another thing to go bad.
During my carb rebuild I found my vacuum lines to be dry and crumbling (but on a 17 year old all original bike . . .)

I guess it all depends on what you want to put your trust in: float needle, vac lines and shutoff or turning the petcock off every time.

I've had my Golan on my Sporty for well over 1000 miles and I haven't regretted it a bit. It only took about a day to get into the habit of closing the petcock when I turn off the key and turn it back on when I start it. Now it's just muscle memory. When I park it in the garage for the night, week or not knowing how long, I just close the petcock about 100 yards away. That way, it only takes about a minute or two to run the carb dry.

I still have my old plastic stock petcock in storage in case someone wants it for backup in an emergency. I'll never use it again. The difference in quality is amazing. The Golan is all metal and O-rings and springs.

I've run Pingel since 1988 on multiple HDs and installed many on customer bikes. The one I bought in '88 started to seep a couple years back. Rebuilt it, good to go.

I abominate vacuum fuel valves. Nobody's perfect and I've left petcocks on now and then but it's still totally worth ditching the vacuum versions.

Golan sends a free rebuilt kit if needed. I watched the video and it only takes about 15 minutes to rebuild it -- just O-rings and springs. Much better than cheap plastic and rubber diaphragm. Just like shoes or boots, buy the good ones and they're much cheaper in the long run.
