If memory serves me right weren’t the belt drives first out on the ‘91’s? That would make yours a later modification?

That might be for stock, but I'm pretty sure there was an Screaming Eagle kit sold to convert at least some years of the 4-sp Evo Sportsters. I recall thinking about doing it to my 1988 at the time.

I retract my advice on the belt drive! Don't use it.

I'm bored from shoulder replacement recovery so I zoomed the pulley pic on my 4K monitor to much larger than actual size. It works great for finding flaws the unaided eye can't see. Check that spline wear!

Much love for belts but none for reinstalling worn splined parts! Those splines are pointed from wear and not far from failure. If you place white paper behind the pulley and use a bright light you'll easily see the pointed teeth.

What do the transmission splines look like? Post another pic of that quality or better. If the splines are done a good sprocket won't solve that.

Shaft is usually okay. The pulley is such a soft metal that the output shaft is in great shape, even when the pulley is stripped smooth. Speaking from personal experience.
