Does your factory clutch pack still have the spring plate (grenade plate)?

Yes, it does.

Always have been gentle with the clutch handle, always have left the clutch slowly get the grip.

Mandatory gear oil change each 5,000 miles. Primary chain checked at each oil change.

That grenade plate that has to be changed early is an urban legend to me.

There are lots of pictures out there of the brass rivets aka shrapnel. I was talking to a service tech at the dealership about this issue last week. This urban legend is true. It's just a matter of time until the rivets fail and the whole unit destroys the transmission. No, the magnet on the drain bolt doesn't catch brass.

If you ever decide to remove it, while you're in there, you can replace the stock clutch release bearing for a much better one made in Germany which is actually designed for this application, the FAG 7200B. It made my clutch lever pull much easier and smoother than before. Both mods are easy and cheap.

Still, it's your bike, do what you want -- or don't want -- to do.
