Disconnect your fuel line and check your fuel flow and or dump the fuel out of your tank...you may have some dirt/debris caught on your petcock screen.

So sorry, the joke comes from a maxim often repeated on this forum; "Most carb problems are electrical in nature".

Let's see about your carb.

Going to need the maker, rebuilt yet? fuel flow from tank, [As our esteemed Canadadian brother pointed out], is the bike tuned up? etc.

As with most of the stuff bolted on to the bike, the carb is interrelated to everything else. That is, when one link in the chain ain't right a problem can arise somewhere else....which goes back to the joke once again.

Post some info please.

PS. You are smart enough to work on your own bike. That's good as these poor things were and still are, the most abused bikes ever seen till we get our hands on them and fix them properly. If you don't already have the Factory Service Manual, [and to a lessor extent, the parts manual], it's in your best interest to get em.

We are for the most part, on our own as far as fixing these old scoots. The dealers won't have anything to do with them and the aftermarket parts market is getting dryer by the year. Noob? I'd say your miles ahead of all the costume wearing "riders", out there.

Once again post back some info.

Gotta bump this thread because I have an issue here.

What if it spins counterclockwise?

Background: 1977 XLCH, no reason to believe this generator has been replaced before I got it. Performed well until the "last days" when I had to run the bike off the car battery because it would die when I took the jumper cables off the (very old) battery. During the teardown I found the brushes were worn right down, so it got the J&P rebuild kit. Double/triple checked all the connections to the pics posted in the threads here and in the stickys and it all looks correct.

But it spins counterclockwise... Or not at all if it's hooked up the other way.

Any ideas?
