Default Frames, suspensions, weights

I’ve been reading through Sportsterpedia History VIN section and there are a few items I was looking to find more about.

Changes to frames over the years. I’ve heard about a “short frame” “long frame”, and some point the frame became the same used on the EVO?

Rear suspension; Sometime in the late 70’s the rear shock and swing arm changed. I think there are round and square swingarms. Front, what was used in different years. Did H-D ever make the front end? I’ve heard KYB, and of course Showa.

Weights, the early sportster is listed at 204lbs, I assume this is the engine only?

The only thing I know for sure is that Harley introduced a new frame on the 1982 Sportsters and I think they ran that frame until '87 or '88 (changing the motor mounts in '86 for the EVO engine). I have a 1982 issue of Cycle Magazine with an article about the "new" upgrades for 1982 Sportsters.

There were quite a few part number changes for IH frames.
I'm not sure what all the changes were.
Frame part number changes are in the IH section:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...:body01#frames
I believe the last short frame was '69 judging from the swingarms here:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/techtalk:ih:susp03

Here's a PDF from harleykmodel.com with pics of frame changes 52-72:
http://www.harleykmodel.com/technica...tin-1-v1.1.pdf

I've read somewhere here about installing an Evo in an IH frame by moving the kickstand location, can't find it right now.
Here is the short frame thread:
