John, our polar vortex must not have reached you, expecting 5F for a low tonight, maybe 20F for our high tomorrow then down to 5F that night. I moved 6 inches of snow when I got home last night and another 3 inches today. Been a long time since I’ve seen this weather in early November. Just might be a real sumb*tch this winter. Enjoy your southern excursion.

I saw an ad from Google that caught my eye, a couple of days ago. They have a plan that works almost everywhere, and it's reasonably cheap. But it only works with "Smart" phones, and I really prefer a flip phone. However, if you're not a Luddite like I am, you might want to check it out.
Thanks for the info.my service charges me 10 bucks a day at my first call or text or data use. That might be my best choice. I will check google out before i commit.

A budget minded friend who does a lot of international traveling uses "google fi"

It's a prepaid plan that uses multiple networks. You might look into it.

A Nippy Morning

Itís 12 degrees F (-11.1 C) outside which breaks the record for this date here in Cincinnati. According to the Weatherman last night, the record was 14. At this point, somebody living in a colder place will gleefully want to chime in about how much colder it is where they are and how much more snow they got. Well; if they enjoy that weather, more power to them. And if they donít, why are they living there? Why not move to where the weather is warmer? Iím whining because I thought Iíd done just that. However; winters are a lot milder here than in Massachusetts.

Anyhow; when I woke up, I was lying in bed and comfortably debating if I should get up or just stay there and enjoy being snug in my own little nest. Then I noticed that the Carbon Monoxide alarm had red, green and blue lights lit, so I jumped up and hit the test/reset button. It wouldnít reset, so I had to change the batteries. Once I did that, it told me that CO was at 0.00 PPM. Since I was now up, I started the coffee and took my shower.

I sat down and read my e-mails. I had a couple of ads for bargains at the supermarket, a few notifications of new responses to threads on the Sportster forum and one e-mail from Melia. Kala has requested that I bring a few specific candies. Iíve got a fair sized pile on the dining room table already, but Iíve got a big bag, so I think I can get everything to fit in it. So I responded and asked if anybody else wanted me to get anything else for them. The size of the pile and my offer to bring even more stuff made me think about Dan Stoley (Stolee?)

Dan was another A&P mechanic when I was in Nairobi. In fact we were room mates; the company was paying the rent on the house we both were living in. Dan was going on Holiday (Vacation) for a month and was heading back to the USA. He had people asking him to get them things that werenít available in Kenya. He took their money and promised heíd bring what they wanted. The one thing that I remember most was the racing pistons for a Suzuki X-7; a bike that was never even sold in the US. A mechanic in another hangar owned and rode it.
Anyhow, Dan took everybodyís money and never returned. We had enough people coming by the companyís hanger asking for him and the things he was supposed to be bringing, that we figured if he had returned with everything he promised, he would have had to charter a 747 to carry it all. He was supposed to come back after a month, but he never showed his face in Nairobi again.

The last thing I heard about Dan at that time was that heíd blown all his money on Coke and robbed a bank. Then he stood on the sidewalk out front pretending to be an innocent passer-by. He got nabbed and went away for a spell.

I got an e-mail this past year about Dan. I think he was running for office in the Northwest, but I just gave the e-mail a quick once over and deleted it. Now, I donít remember what it said. Heís still alive, though.

So here I am promising to bring a whole lot of stuff with me and offering to bring more. The big difference is that I am going to Australia and Iím not taking a cent for what Iím bringing. Iím nothing like Dan; but the quantity of things is sizeable.

And none of it is motorcycle parts.

T Minus Four

Iím excited. Iím doing everything I can think of to make the trip go smoothly. My Passport is safely stashed in my carry-on bag. Most of my clothes are packed, as is the stuff Iím bringing for everyone there; cans of B&M beans, Skyline Chili, a whole bunch of little toys, a bigger bunch of candy, etc. Thereís a 23 Kilo (50 Lbs.) limit per bag, and my bag is pretty close to that limit. There isnít a whole lot left to do to get ready. I have to test my blood on Monday (OOH! I canít forget to pack my testing kit!). I also have to go by the Post Office and put a hold on my mail delivery. And I have my Physical on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday morning, Iíll wash my sheets and the dirty clothes that I wonít be bringing (that way, Iíll have a bed with clean sheets and clean clothes to wear waiting when I get back. I have to remember to turn the Water Heater to its ďVacationĒ setting and turn the thermostat for the furnace down to 50 degrees. My Internet will be on Hold which only costs me $5.00/ month. Iíll shut off the power to the modem and save a few cents on that, as well.

Davidís going to mail out my Christmas cards for me. I addressed and stamped them already, so all he has to do is bring them to the Post Office. Davidís also driving me to the Airport on Wednesday. I will be very careful to not let him get anywhere near my bag. Maybe I havenít gotten him back for that little ďGiftĒ he put in my suitcase when I went to Nairobi, but I havenít forgotten; and I sure as hell donít want a repeat of that situation. Come to think of it, Davidís gotten me on a few occasions that I havenít gotten him back for. Either I must be slipping, or heís that much better at it than I am. Probably both.

So for now, Iím just marking time. Iím trying to make sure I dot all my Ts and cross all my Is. Iím so wound up that I canít even enjoy a movie. After just a few minutes, I get antsy and lose concentration. Iím just trying to focus on the fact that in a few days, Iíll be in 95 degree temperatures and getting a lot of sun. Iíll get a Flat White coffee at the Cafť 33 in Gatton and just marvel at the fact that Iím back in Queensland.

I really love my life sometimes!

Happy for you John, do leave those pesky migraines here Stateside and maybe leave the bathroom and kitchen sink cabinet doors open while you are gone. Less likelyhood of issues with cold pipes.
