Default Switching back to points from Electronic Single Fire

I had a Crane Hi-4 Single fire fail on my '76 XLCH. I can't afford a new electronic ignition right now but I do have a good points assembly here.

Can I even run points with a single-fire coil?

If so, how would I change the wiring to power the points breaker?

I'm running kick-only, with no tach or VOES so its only the 3 wires from the unit. Thanks!

With a single set of points you would have to rewire the coil to dual firing or simply replace the coil with one that is dual fire rated for points

How would i rewire that? Splice one wire to run to both front and rear cylinder posts on the coil?

Thank you

ignition systems are based on the ohm`s of the coil. you might be able to link the 2 coils together but the ohm`s may be way off and either degrade the coil output voltage or burn the points from the high current

Without opening up the coil, I don't know of a way to wire up a single fire to make it a double fire. Either new coil, or new ignition.

I can't offer any help on switching to points, but since I am running the same HI-4 ignition I'm curious about how it failed.

Did it give you any kind of warning or did it just go belly up one day?

Who ever installed mine for the po snagged the wire cover pretty good fishing it through the cam case eventually it wore through all the way and shorted the whole deal...probably the reason the po parked it in the first place
