Default Harley-Davidson Pan America

Considering Harley-Davidson’s recent questionable marketing ploys, like randomly sponsoring the X-Games and headlining in a Katie Perry music video, you can tell the American motorcycle manufacturer is throwing a lot at the wall to see what sticks. That includes the all-new, first-ever Harley-Davidson adventure motorcycle. The Pan America made its official debut at EICMA this year and also came sporting H-D’s new liquid-cooled V-twin engine. With the way the adventure market is trending, H-D is pinning its hopes on the Pan America, but seeing as how it’s the brand’s first venture into the space, there’s no way to tell how competitive the bike will be, just yet.

I think a brand name is getting less and less important when you see what is happening. Triumphs are made in Thailand, Benelli's, CCM and other 'old' names are made in China. 'Swedish' Volvo's from Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. China. These new 'Harley's' are made in India.

I think it's over with Harley as we know it. Why should I buy a bike that is mass produced somewhere in Asia with a (fill-any-name-you-like-in) sticker on it? I'm not saying there bad bikes, it just doesn't matter anymore what sticker is on the tank...

One phone call to China and you can order bikes with your own name as brand.
Stairman Motorcycles...doesn't even sound bad.

Asia is coming and they don't give a rat's ass about what certain companies call their 'heritage'.
Only fools think that it will make a difference what name is written on the gas tank.

With the way our economy is going, these "India" bikes will eventually be made in the good 'ol USA for the North American Market. It'll be more about 'Logistics' than 'cost to manufacture' in the near future. I hope the "Long Way Round" boys give the Pan American a shakedown sometime in the near future.

Where does India come in with respect to the Pan America? I have seen nothing indicating it or any other bike sold in the US will me made there.

Harley has set up an assembly unit at Bawal, Haryana. In 2011, Harley-Davidson India began the assembly of its Sportster line followed by the assembly of the Dyna line in 2012 and Softail line in 2013. In 2014, Harley-Davidson began manufacturing the Street 750 and 500 motorcycles in India at Bawal, Haryana India, its only manufacturing facility outside of the US. The Street platform is jointly manufactured at Harley-Davidson’s US and India plants.

I've read it somewhere sooner and I tried to find it. It's as hard to find as the fact in what plant they are actually made in the US. This all make it seem that I'm wildly guessing now because I can't proof what I stated If someone can point out in what Harley-Davidson plant in the US the Pan American will be made I will rectify my post immediately. A VIN number will do also

If it is true it could also mean that Harley-Davidson will not make the new motorcycles themselves in India but instead manufacture through a strategic alliance like they did before with Aermacchi.

The things I read about the Harley Plant in India runs along the same lines as NLXL's comments. They are supposedly supposed to produce bikes for the Asian and African and possibly the EU markets. While the US plants produce for the North American and EU markets. Sportsters are made in York, Pa. now. The Street I haven't really looked into those.

Getting back to the original post Stairman made: It reminds me of an older video of RevZilla. To me it makes sense what he is saying about the new buyers and the future of Harley-Davidson:

1. The future customers
2. The existing customers
3. Non customers

(video is about 6 minutes)

the future of harley-davidson
