Thanks for the kind words everyone.
It's kind of amazing to me that three years have gone by on this project.
It doesn't seem that long ago that we started on it.
It's crazy though.
We still haven't scratched the surface on uncovering all the wealth of information buried in this forum.

We've been just touching on some subjects as research leads to more than 1 at a time.
When a small amount of information is found, it's placed in an appropriate place in the Sportsterpedia.
And awaiting for more information to be included when possible.

So some subjects are incomplete but hopefully we can start to filling in some blanks in this coming year.

Hit me up in the summer when I have more time Hippy. The majority of the time I spend here is done at work killing time when I'm unloading or waiting at a terminal to load.

I used to do that also.

We have headings for many, many subjects already.
These are created generally when there are pics or data found for them.

Anybody that wants to help add information to the Sportsterpedia can simply contact Bert (owner of the XLF and Sportsterpedia) and he can set you up as an editor.
Then if you want to do a simple quick addition of pics or info to a certain subject, they can be simply dropped there and one of us will massage it in place.
Else anyone can create new subjects and start from scratch.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Per Bert:
Hey all. Many of you don't yet know about the SPORTSTERPEDIA website at http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php . This is a great resource for Sportster Technical info. Just like Wikepedia.org anyone can add to and edit the information provided. The pages can also be saved as PDF files. Please check it out and / or help out with it today!
I think there is some confusion regarding what Sportsterpedia.com is and who can contribute.

Sporsterpedia.com is what is called a WIKI. Just like Wikipedia.com.

EVERYONE can contribute to the info and the info does not need to be complete. Even if you have only a bit of the information you can add it. For example if you know a few of the Sportster models built in say 1975 but not all of them, then you can add what you know. Maybe you know the original price of the 1983 Sportster but nothing else. You can add that info.

If you don't know how to format content don't worry about it. If it is wrong and someone sees it who is able to fix it, then they will.

Also if you see a mistake or something that needs more detail or clarification you are able to edit the page.

Wikipedia.com let anyone add and edit pages. I have set Sportsterpedia.com up so that only registered editors can do so in order to prevent vandelism.

Anyone can register and that puts you into the USER group. I then have to place you in the EDITOR group so you can edit or create pages. I did this because ANYONE can register and become go into the USeR group. By only allowing people in the EDITOR group to edit and create pages it stops a lot of problems.

After you register, please email me from the contact on the main page of Sportsterpedia.com or send me a PM here.

I encourage EVERYONE to contribute. You don't have to be an Sportster expert to do so.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are bound to keep the Sportsterpedia free of all copyright infringement, especially the MoCo' s drawings and literature.
For that reason, we can transcribe documents but not word for word and we have to show ownership through footnotes and links (if applicable) to the originals.
You've probably seen tons of footnotes but they are required.
If you write your own document, footnotes are still required to show it wasn't lifted (also to show authorship to others in the future)
Pictures must belong to you or that you have explicit permission to post them.
Pics posted on the XLF (that you know belong to the poster) are free to use in the wiki as per the agreement for using the XLF.
It's sometimes hard to distinguish if the poster used someone else's pics, use your own digression there.

If you'd like to take some pics of your bike and send them to us,
You can post them in the Send a Note to Sportsterpedia Admin thread
You can PM IXL2Relax or myself.
Contact information is also posted on the Sportsterpedia Welcome page:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/start#contact_us

We need pics of OEM parts.
Pics of parts and part numbers.
If you don't have part numbers, that's OK.

Wheels, spacers, spokes, seats, handlebars, gauges, distinguishing frame shots, brakes, drums, starters, mags, generators,
Seats, ignition parts, fenders, alternators, cam gear stamped numbers,
Pics of any stamped part or assembly number,
We would like to show what factory parts looked like for all models.
Bolts, bolts and more bolts.
What size bolt fits X part. Lots of questions on the forum about this.
There are a few lists on the forum.
But the lists do not cover all models.
Post what size bolt (nominal size, threads and length) that you just took off and what year model you took it off of.
Basically, there is or should be an article on every part of each bike.

Pics of aftermarket parts also.
Any mods you may have done can be added also.

You can do as much or as little as you'd like.

If you already have a thread where you've posted pics and/or info,
Please point those out to us and we can bring them into the Sportsterpedia.

We appreciate anything you can do.
If you just want to send a note saying "add this there", that's OK too.
If you'd like to edit in the wiki, we can certainly use some extra fingers on the keyboard.
Getting the information there is the most important part as mentioned earlier.
It can be massaged, edited or moved a whole lot faster than originally written.
So basically, if you just want to get your feet wet and get used to everything,
To begin with,
You can write a document from wherever and paste it in the wiki and we can massage it from there.
Then you can go back in afterwards and see what we've done to it as a guide.
That may help you get used to everything.
I'm still learning functions. IXL2Relax knows more about the controls than I do.

The Sportsterpedia is here to help each of us with our bikes.
That includes using it to help other posters who may be having problems of their own.
If you want to post pictures from the Sportsterpedia into your posts to help someone else,
There is an article here on How To Link to Sportsterpedia Pages or Images

The Sportsterpedia is a compilation of hard work and help from ALL of us, Including YOU.
