I run forward controls on the street. I installed BMX bicycle pegs in the rear with an air shifter on my forwards. My times are much more consistent now that I don't have to swing my feet up at the start.

I have forward controls and don't find them to be that hard to get my feet on at the strip. Mid or rear would be preferable, but I ride mine to the strip as well as on the street. Even forward controls don't stretch you out that far on a Sportster compared to forwards on a Dyna or a larger framed bike. I used to launch with my left foot already on the peg, but didn't find that to be any better than with both feet down. If I ever make my current ride a strip only bike, I'd probably go for mids or rears, but in the meantime....

Gotta say. I love the feeling of taking off with forward controls, hanging on for dear life! That is THE REASON I got a Harley. But if I was serious about dragging, I'd probably go rearsets.
