But I would tear the carb down - remove all the rubber, seals, etc. - soak in carb cleaner - blow out ALL orifices with compressed air - Check to see what is worn - then decide if you need the basic kit or something more...

Replace the Manifold seals (at heads & carb)...

Pay attention when remounting the carb to be sure you don't introduce any manifold air leaks - Retune the carb

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on the CV40 carb:

And.... Note the tiny little o-ring under the Low speed needle [Idle mixture screw] as well as the ones at the drain screw and in the accelerator pump... they can be destroyed by carb cleaners...

i have one of those too.
the problem with mine not running was the seal behind the carb that goes to that wye shaped intake.
so i would replace that and then just follow all the general tune up advice.
change all the fluids. i put new tires and belt on mine.
now that i think about it my carb had been modified - the hole in the slide had been drilled out - so i restored the carb back to stock and replaced the slide and all the jets back to stock (except ended up using a larger idle jet)
i like inline fuel filters too.
