Default LED headlight caused problems

A while ago, I replaced my H4 head lights with LED lights that were supposed to be plug and play. It worked great at first and then some problems began. It flickered, it caused power throughout the bike to fluctuate. The last thing that happened was a ride at night where the bike headlight shut off, the bike shutdown, I got off the highway. Restarted. Got home. Took out the LED light and went back to the H4.
Just recently I came across articles saying that the turn signal LED's need load equalizers, etc. Was that my problem with the LED head light? Any ideas? I have since thrown them away but they were much brighter and I would go back to them if they did not cause problems.
This was on a 2008 and a 2009 XL1200C sportsters. I was not riding the 2008 much at the time so don't remember if I was having problems with that bike but when things went wrong, I said enough.
By the way, once I went back to the H4's, there were no further problems.
Appreciate any help?

No equalizer/load resistor needed for the headlight (at least on pre Canbus bikes), in the TS circuit they made the load equal to the incandescent bulb so the TS unit didn't think you had bulbs out due to the very low current draw of LED bulbs. So anyway sounds like you just had a failing LED headlight.
Many people here have had good results with the Wisamic LED headlights and FWIW I've been running one for two years with no problems...they are about $40 at Amazon IIRC.

O.k. Thanks. I need to check one of those LED's.
