Of course an EFI is a rubbermount.

Mine uses hardly any oil, BTW. Not did my '05 or '13.

Nibelungen, I don't know exactly what my oil consumption was when I first got my bike ('06 1200, carb) but it used at least a quart at around 2000 miles. The hotter it was outside the more it would use. I switched over Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 and it's at a 1/2 quart every 4000 miles.

yeah... sure temps are a key factor in the equation
i use HD SE synth... at the service... and a 15 w 50 semi synth Arexons to fill up...
sadly in my Country we have not many oils for air cooled vtwin
the vast majority of motor oils are for water cooled engines...

recently i had found a place where there was on the shelf a fully synth 15 w 50 (now i don't remember the brand and i'm lazy in this moment to go in garage to see... but i think it was Motul)... 25 euros a quart...

Well, you can only use what's available. When your oil consumption gets down to 1qt. every 500 miles, then you have a problem. Back when I had my '81 Ironhead, I used 1qt. for every 1000 miles. This was considered average and normal, even 1qt. to every 500 miles wasn't anything to really worry about. So I think you're probably doing alright.

And yes a heck of a lot of rubber mount 883s will have some mild wet-sumping at sustained speeds above 80 mph. My 2007 did even with the improved oil pump. It didn't hurt anything but it caused my oil temps at the tank to run over 250 degrees which is one of the first signs that the bike is starting to wet-sump.

All wet-sumping is is your oil pump is putting oil into your engine faster than it can pump it out which causes your crankcase to have more oil than it should. In extreme cases the crank will literally be pushing through the oil and you can see a huge power loss on the dyno. But once you slow down the pump catches back up and things go back to normal.

Mine doesn't use any perceivable amount at all. I have the breathers blowing out the back of the air cleaner and see no oil, maybe just a little residue if anything.

I have an EBS on my bike and I only have about a drop or two that comes out of it after an hours worth of riding.....but no high speed or high rpm (usually I run the engine in the 2,500 to 3,500 RPM range). My bike has close to 15K and uses no oil, but I change it every 2K so probably it doesn't have a lot time to indicate low oil.

Same here. I installed the EBS (external breather system) on my 2005 XL883 last year when it only had 11K miles on it. Now I'm past 16K miles and I don't have to add any oil between changes at 2.5K mile intervals. After riding for more than an hour, in all temps, I place a folded paper towel underneath my non-filtered EBS drain tube to catch any drops. I average only one or two drops during the first few hours of being parked. This paper towel not only gives me a count of drops, it keeps my garage floor dry. I am very happy with my Sporty!
