The Honda kickstand switch is simple and easy to replace (or bypass) - I had to replaced mine on my 1988 Shadow which was easy. That's how I know that it is designed to fail in a safe way and not leave you stranded by the road side.
clutch switch works by pressing it... jiffy stand switch works when a metal mass lay in proximity... both have overtime to be trimmed and shimmed to work properly... 'cause they are far too cheap for an 11k euros bike...

I don't plan on buying a new Sportster because I love the old one that I ride but I still visit the stealerships out of curiosity. Is it just me or is H-D making the paint and details on ALL of the new models cheaper,? And I don't mean price, I'm talking about the the quality and overall appearance.

In my opinion neither of that... HD still shows great quality of assembling... and after riding some efis after many years of carbed Sporty seems to me a great improvement Mo.Co had made...

only i was saying that these switches were inadequate...
i choose to adjust and keep them... but more easily i could have got rid of them for good...

The kickstand switch on my old Honda Shadow (non-Jiffy) worked simply by the kickstand bar pressing a button closed. Replacing the switch was cheap and easy (eBay for the switch and about 10 minutes of plug & play). It could also be bypassed but I liked it.

Regarding the carb models stumbling when starting, my 2005 model never does. However, I do have a habit of closing the petcock before I ride the bike into the garage and then let the carb run empty. This keeps the carb clean and in this winter season, I never know when my next ride will be. Maybe the clean carb helps. I'm not sure, but I never experience the stumble and it always starts within 3 engine revolutions with the choke and a couple pumps on the throttle before I start.

I do the same if I know I'm not going to be riding within the next day or two.

Especially in the off-season, I keep a 5-gallon can of non-ethanol gas with stabilizer in the garage so I can top off the tank after every ride. Full tank and empty carb. Battery Tender hooked up. Air pressure gauge beside my helmet to remind me to check the air in my tires.

Non ethanol 91 octane is hard to find in Colorado, so I don't worry about that so much. Even in the winter we get some nice days, so it doesn't sit so long that I have to worry much about fuel stabilizer. We have 1 tender for two bikes, and usually its on the daughter's XG since it kills the battery, but the better half puts mine on the tender for a day every week or two. Tire pressure is checked daily, habits from pretripping my over the road truck daily.
