Default CV Carb hesitation

Because I am used to the Bendix and the Super E carbs, how do we adjust the CV carbs?! I’m getting major hesitation at start up!

There are many threads and posts on site with all the answers you’re liable to need. Also, peek into the C.V. Carb section in “Sportsterpedia” a most excellant resource. There’s a link in my signature.

As above , I'v had 2 sporties now both with carbs set up wrong .. It took me a while of asking and reading for it to click .. I'v found first thing is make sure the throttle blade is in its closed position and work from there ... Both my sporties were open too far so the mixture screw wasn't doing much but as soon as I had it running on idle circuit the difference in adjustments was much easier ( for that circuit ) .

You find the transfer ports " kick in" when they should

Not a tech answer but I'v found I'm a lot more confident knowing where to start and work up through the circuits ...

The Sportsterpedia has extensive information about tuning the CV40 Carb:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/techtalk:evo:carb02

You have to read it over carefully to understand all that is there and check everything properly from the tank all the way to the cylinders...

So now the CV carb’s over flow is pouring fuel upon turning the gas on?! Is the float sticking?!

Float height setting is done at a angle.

Youtube videos show how a block of wood can be cut at angle to lean the carb against and check the float level.

My bike was hesitating comming off idle often, until I stuck three washers under the carb needle. Same thing as ajustable needle with c lip and grooves. Piolot jet and mixture adgustment only did not work for me, though motor needed both. Everything is richer, but who knows if power is up from non stock pipes. I dought it, probbly not and maybe less. I wish I had some stock pipes to see.

That's not a solution for off-idle hesitation. If you follow the Sportsterpedia link above, carefully checking every aspect, and tuning as described, you should have a crisp throttle response - without the overly rich condition of 3-washers under the needle...

make sure that the idle is set a little high. once i went to 1050, i noticed that a lot of the hesitation went away.

but that is also part of making sure that the carb is set up right. follow the info. you'll be fine.
