What did you do for your sporty Today?

I removed the wiring harness from the 2010 fender and cleaned the inside of the fender with Goo Gone and then Gasoline. Washed and dried it, then put the wiring harness from a 2016 Superlow T in its place. Then I installed the fender on my 2016 Roadster. That took most of Friday.

On Saturday, I also relocated the turn signals and installed a tail light. That involved changing both the terminals and plastic connector housings. That may not sound like much, but it was a daunting project for me. To get it all done took the better part of two days with a lot of running around town. I lucked out when I found a shop that had both the removal tool and the right crimper for the wire ends and a knowledgeable mechanic who took the time to help me out. (The Bike Shop on Pedretti Ave.) I don't usually do well with electrical issues, especially when I don't have the right tools. However, with help, and using thought and care, I did everything right. and it's getting closer to the Ideal Sportster for me.

Next up is putting the Hepco & Becker hard bags on the 16.

Speaking of plugs, I am currently running NGK iridium plugs. The bike came with HD (Champion) plugs and they were OK. Then I switched to NGK regular plugs and they were OK. The iridium are far better with my 2005 (no wasted spark system) as far as warm up and response.
But, here is my question: Since iridium plugs have a much longer run time (more miles between change intervals) in cars, how many miles can these plugs last in the Evolution engine?

Rode about 60 miles to look at a Saddlemen Explorer seat.....looked good, price was better, bought it and installed on the spot. 60 mile ride back home.....great seat.

Y'all do know Loctite is a brand name and they make anti-seize, as a matter of fact, more than one type for different applications, not to mention they make threadlockers of different types for different applications.

Anyone care to elaborate on which exact threadlocker and anti-seize they may or may not be using?

Good point.

I use Permatex Anti Seize Lubricant 133A.

I use a number of different threadlockers, depending on what I'm doing.

Most used is Loctite blue; eg: 243, 248 (this one is a stick).

Loctite red for permanent fixings; eg 271.

Loctite purple for low strength, small fasteners; eg: 222.

A small thing. I got the e-mail from the Iron Butt Association that my SS 1000 on the Sporty was approved. So I rummaged into my bin of misc bike crap, found an IBA plate backer and put it behind my license plate.

I'll add the wicking 290 Loctite to the list along with the high strength 262 red Loctite HD specifies.

Fitted two new throttle cables and grips to my 07 bike

All parts came out of a box of free parts. All labelled for a carb’d Dyna.

The metal bit of the cables where they exit the grip needed bending from 90 degrees to about 140 degrees, but otherwise the same, length all exact.

Even the RH grip with its sleeve for the throttle cables worked without modifications or glue on the LHS. The throttle lugs fitted in to a groove in the LH switchgear and all clamped down perfectly.


£100 saved ���� towards the new oil tanks

LBeen having issues with the Mikuni HSR42 on Black Beauty. Believe the choke cable had not set fully into the elbow off the back of the carb. Have it corrected but additionaly found the accelerator pump rod seized in place. Soaking it over night in penetrant hoping to regain movement in the morning.
