"Success", as in "won/placed races" is not the goal.
The goal is enhanced sales volume, in which the riding public transfers their interest in the race results to their wallets.
It can win EVERY race, but if the buyers don't see this as a reason to buy the (equivalent) model* it's a failure.

* very important: a racer sale instead of a "normal" model is not a success at all unless the mark-up is higher.

Not being a great success is not a fiasco, failures are sometimes the greatest success. Stopping a project also is not a fiasco, many many companies have stopped projects and continued on. The bikes that win all the races are not necessarily making the motorcycle companies huge sales. In the USA, Harley sells more 601+CC motorcycles than the rest combined. What a fiasco!

So regardless of the politics of the why and why not. But if someone who builds. a bike to race and compete.
look at the Indian ftr series. there is no reason why Harley could not do it. They just want to pay ceo's way more than they are worth. So now when the virus settles and all the old guys who never wanted the mo co to change. will no longer be running the corporate politics, the old look is great but to not find out what the younger demographic population wants. That generation wants nothing to do with the harley davidson stereo type. they do not want to be associated with what the brand has made the operators of other brands unwelcome. well all that has done is when that generation is gone the next generation will make it what they want. same with politics can not argue with old and stuck. wait it out. change will come. when do you think Indian buys harley ? or ducati makes the purchase? the changes will come. harley has survived the spanish flu. of 1918 can it survive the covid19 0f 2020?
