Default Diagnostic code ?

Went for a ride today. After riding 75 miles with no issues, I stopped for gas & half a mile from the restart, bike started losing power, popping & banging, & wouldn't idle. Had to go home for the trailer. Pulled the codes & what came up was... b1006 & b1007. Looked at the stickies on diagnostic codes & couldn't find these listed. Can any one tell me what these codes mean & what the cure is?

Oh, BTW, I disconnected the battery this morning & cleaned all the terminals, before I left on the ride. Could that have anything to do with the problem?

Overvoltage? Disconnect the alternator and/or regulator and see how it runs off just a (charged) battery?

Could be you disturbed something.

I'll try that tomorrow, Tom, if I can figure out what connectors to pull. I'll also try another battery that I'm sure is good. Thanks. The overvoltage codes were B1006 &7, in post #43 of the How does diag mode work thread. Mine came up b1006 &7.

DTC B1006 and B1007
The speedometer (XL) and tachometer (XR) monitors terminal
1 for ignition power, and terminal 6 for accessory power.
DTC B1006 is displayed when accessory line voltage is
greater than 16.0V for longer than 5 seconds.
DTC B1007 is displayed when ignition line voltage is
greater than 16.0V for longer than 5 seconds.

Test the charging system.
If it tests good the next step is clear the codes, run the engine at 3000 rpms for 5 seconds.
If the code(s) return replace the speedo (XL) or tach (XR)
I would check the speedo / tach wiring and connectors first

shanneba, thanks. If the regulator or alternator has failed, can it cause the 16V thing? I know less than nothing about this electrical stuff. Can that also cause the backfiring & other stuff, too? commando57, just filled up the truck yesterday, at the same station that was built only 2 months ago. Truck's running fine. Don't think it's the gas.

Charge your battery. Follow the regulator wires. Disconnect its' connectors. It's a simple test.

Do you have a volt meter?

If the regulator is not fully grounded to the frame, you can overcharge your battery.
My stator went bad and what caused me to test it was that the bike ran out of power and then backfired and shut down.
I could fire it back up but it went dead again.
I was basically running off waning battery power.

Here is some simple testing for the stator and regulator below that.
