If you didn't laugh, you;d have to cry.
I'm sure they were fine when they let China.
Consider buying some points from Dave Shaw, Morris Magnetos. Yes, more expensive but his stuff works.

Of course, I understand in the modern world of electronic controls and digital fuel injection, that ignition is "built in" to engine operating systems, and can then be effectively ignored. But that AIN'T the case for any carbureted motor.
I look at old hot rodding magazines from the fifties and sixties, and see ad after ad for ignition related products. Those guys KNEW ignition was important. We have it easy nowadays, but that doesn't mean we can just ignore it.
For the love of all that is Holy, guys, PAY ATTENTION to your ignition, ESPECIALLY the TIMING.
Rant over; sorry, this thread touched a nerve.

I finally got the time to get the points in and set. I just set static timing but it runs much better than before. I thought it was running well before but now its much smoother, power seems about the same. New plugs and adjusting the push rods may have helped a bit too but neither was really bad.

I static time the points on my '77 XLT but then adjust them based on riding conditions. I'm running Wiseco's so the compression is a bit higher and I found I had to back off the advance a little bit to avoid pinging on hot days.
