That sag wagon seemed to be with them most of the time and yet once the camera man's BMW broke beyond repair he was relegated to an old two stroke which seemed to have carried him the rest of the way with no fanfare.

Also there have been plenty of people over the decades touring the world on non-adventure tour bikes (husband and wife on a Honda CX500) so I guess Bone's explanation regarding publicity and currying favor is probably the most accurate.

Anyway, back on point. I hope the Pan America goes through a final design phase because IMO it looks fugly (like the ass-end of a 1980 Lamborghini Athon)... reminds me of a 1970s or '80s era futuristic concept bike that I remember seeing but can't quite remember the make or model... I think it was a Pininfarina or Bertone design... in other words it looks like something old and dated from a Popular Mechanics mag.

long way around - it'a been a while since I watched this but the bike thing went this way as I remember. They actually wanted to use KTM adventure bikes. The deal was free bikes for the advertisement possibilities. KTM did not think they could finish the trip and so declined to give them bikes. Next choice was BMW who offered the 1200, they did not want to advertise for the 650. So the got the 1200's by default.

The trip was not some alone adventure. They had four wheel support vehicles and a cameraman on another bike.

A friend of mine who I met in 2008 when he was living in Mazatlan did it what I think of as the right way and the way I do it - alone. Glen Heggstad has done a lot of traveling: (Most of the time he used a BMW F650GS or a Kawasaki 650KLR and for a while a BMW F1100GS) We use to go out and, as he put it, pillage the village. He built a place in Palm Springs and moved there so I don't see him too much these days.

I was leaning towards the Sport Glide as my next bike until this news came out. We'll see what happens with that. Wouldn't it be funny if we each bought the same bike twice? 🤣
