Default Project “ExPat”

I’ve been planning a custom bike build for the last few months and I figured this would be a great place to share it and get opinions and input.

The overall build is a retro inspired Sportster in the style of the 50’s Sportster that competed with the Triumph Bonnevilles. The twist was I was planning on putting a Buell XB engine in it.

Thoughts?

Hey, if it's "custom" do your thing man! That's what makes it "custom.

However, not to be a stickler but uh, the Sportster was introduced in 1957 and the Bonnie in 59.

Other than that, go for it!!!!

That is what customs are all about. Make it yours whatever your personal taste may be and forget about what anyone else thinks.

Nice drawing by the way.

Thanks! I don’t draw very often anymore, so I’m glad it came out okay.

The XBs performance improvement over a Sportster was largely due to the better intake and exhaust systems, you will loose that with the Sportster style intake and exhaust.

I believe the intake manifold can be rotated in order to take in its gases from the side, like a sportster, without significant modifications to the existing parts. The exhaust is going to be custom, not using regular components from sportsters. I know that there will be a little bit of a loss, as Eric Buell did such a great job designing those bikes. I’m just dancing around the edges of what that man can do. LOL

It is not the direction of the intake, it is the massive increase in the intake volume that makes the difference, hence you may as well use a Sportster engine and leave a Buell still alive. But it is of course your choice. I just want to see more Buells left alive.
