Default Triking a Sporty

I'm going to get my sporty triked this autumn to try and lure my missus onto the back, she doesn't like thing that lean!
I've got a couple ideas, nothing fancy, no over wide wheels, a decent rack on the back to take the touring gear. I saw a couple of nice ones at a sporty rally about three weeeks ago, but they're not uploaded onto my photobucket album yet and I'm at my son's, so I can't dip into my pictures, so will have to send pics later. Most of the Harley trikes I've seen are Big twins, but the two recent sporty ones were a re nice neat job, though one had far too wide wheels for my liking.

I reckon a Harley Trike would be great! What type of drive would the trike have, the origional belt, or chain conversion? Or is there a way to make a proper shaft drive somehow?

Sportys make awesome donors for trikes. I'm on my 3rd sportster trike build & plan on building more.

And your right, a lot of women (& men) don't like 2 wheels but they feel more secure on 3. Hope you succeed in getting your wife to ride.

Here are a few pics of the last one that I built.

Good luck on your build.

Hello Dave not to change your idea about turning your sportster into a trike, I think you may like to see this one, CanAm trike. google it.
I saw one going down the road and I like it, it is pretty swift looking.

I dunno... those CanAm Spyders look an awful lot like lawn-mowers...

Hi! Guys, thanks for the replies, that Ace of Spades looks very tasty; I will have to seriously look at a few ideas; more than likely it will be a chain drive to the backend, possibly a larger tank, and talking to Bryan ( my son, ) this morning, he reckons I'll need to get her rebored to 1200cc to give her more torque, as he reckons I'll lose a bit because of the extra wheel. What do you think? I'll be interested in your views. The more I hear the more I'm thinking it would be the right thing to do. I have an MZ 250 that I can use for throwing around the local bends near my home! I'm also thinking about a reverse gear. I think I read somewhere that it works off of the starter motor, or is it only on the BT's? I'm sure someone out there has the info! Cheers: L. Dave

There are trike kits that you don't even remove the rear tire, but then its actually a 4 wheeler?
Lots of options, just depends on how much you want to spend... $$$
