Default 69/50 Fest: The 50th Anniversary of the 1969 Sportster (Fall 2019 GBB) 9/14/19

The date of the GBB Ironhead Sportster Gatherings in Central NJ are normally announced about 6 weeks in advance. But for the Fall 2019 GBB we are going to have a special theme: 1969 Sportsters.

The Fall 2019 GBB will be alternately known as "69/50 Fest". We will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Sportster.

The GBB was founded by 3 guys: Papa Magneto, 16ouncePBR, and Magneto Sportster. The three of us met and bonded over 1969 Sportsters, because at the time, that's what all three of us were riding.

The 1969 XLCH has long been considered the last "real" XLCH because it is the last Sportster to ever leave the factory with a magneto as the stock ignition system, as well as the last year for the classic stamped steel primary cover attached to the last-year "no hump" engine case. So, on the 50th anniversary of this bike in 2019, we are going to honor it.

The Fall 2019 GBB will be open to ALL IRONHEADS, but we are encouraging anyone with a 1969 Sportster to give it their best effort to ride it this time. Our hope is to gather as many 1969 Sportster in one place as possible. If you know someone with a 1969 Sportster, please share the info for 69/50 with them! They can be stock, custom, or running projects - just ride them!

Here is a little teaser photo from a few years ago at Oley. We were able to get 4 stock condition 1969 XLCH's together:

We will have special goodies for anyone who rides a 1969 Sportster to the Fall 2019 GBB.

Other than the "69/50" theme, all other details of the Fall 2019 GBB will remain the same:

When: Saturday, September 14th, 2019
Where: Orlando's Cafe (the former Brass Ring Diner) - 310 Rt. 31 North, Hopewell, NJ 08525
Time: 10:00 A.M.

We will gather at Orlando's Cafe to eat breakfast. Then, many of us like to take a little ride together (nothing official - just some folks taking an informal, scenic ride), usually about 50 miles with a stop or two thrown in. All are welcome to tag along. Finally, we will end up back at Ironheadquarters (near Frenchtown, NJ) for a picnic and refreshments. All attendees are welcome at the picnic, but understand that this is a strict IRONHEAD-ONLY event. All Ironhead Sportster riders are welcome: Restorations, choppers, bobbers, cafe racers, rat bikes, big wheel baggers, OCC theme bikes, and stockers. It doesn't matter what style of ironhead you ride, or if it's shiny or rusty - just be a cool person who enjoys RIDING Ironheads!

*disclaimer* The GBB is an informal gathering of riders. Nothing is official except the date. If you want to come, then ride over and have a great time. If you can't make it, then don't...no excuses. No need to RSVP, just get in the garage and make sure your bike is ready for September 14th if you want to hang out.

Here is the info for our meeting point, Orlando's Cafe:

So get in the garage, get your Ironhead ready, polish up those "Bronson Pipes" and plan to attend the Fall 2019 GBB! "No whining, only 69ing!"

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

I will dig the 69 out of moth balls and mark it on the calendar.
