Hi Folk,

I've got a 883 Anniversary, it's a 2nd hand and it had the windshield on when I did buy it, I've kept it on for the way back home, just a little 40 miles, but @ 75/mph average (legal speed back in Belgium) well it did feel nice and comfy.

I took it of when I got back home, a couple of days later I had to take the freeway again for a short run, wa'snt quite the same without the shield !

Think I'm gonna keep it instead of selling it, and mount it on my bike when I'm planning a voyage or something that involves a lot of miles on a freeway, it's quite comfortable if you wanna ride faster than a granny in her wheelchair...

I have never rode a bike with a windshield, so I do not know how much it would change the ride for me personally. However I just do not think they look right on a sportster.

I didn't think anything about it until reading this forum thread, but I get 10 to 12 miles to the gallon more with the tall shield that I put on my ULY.It didn't dawn on me why I got better mileage all of a sudden.Cannot really say that I love the shield, never had one.But hell with gas at $3.65 a gallon what the fudge.Wish now that I had it on the first 10,000 miles, could of bought a quarter pounder with cheese or something with the extra money.

Just my opinion, but. . . . .

Windshields look like shit on a sportster. Honestly.

Then again, so do saddlebags, fringes, and badges that say, "Ride to Live, Live to Ride (on bikes that are 4 years old and only have 2000 miles on the odometer!! That really cracks me up.)

I dont like them, but i do have one, a small one: 17"h 12"w, now after riding all day i can still go out at night. without it i would go to bed. I dont like stationwagon's either, but if you see me in one of those please shoot me!!!
really, it was after a heartattack and lung cancer, so with it, i can ride all day. without it i cant.

Neverseen a sporty look good with a windshield. If you want a touring bike, get one also. I had a touring bike also for a short period, and loved it. But the need for funds caused me to sell the bike of less interest to me, and the sporty is still with me. Grant it, it was nice cruising on the highway at 70 with a windshield and jamming to CSN on the long trips, but that was what that bike was built for.

I have the quick detachable HD compact, and use it in the winter. BIG difference in comfort, especially at speed. Looks a bit unusual, but not as bad as I thought before I bought it.

For long rides, I tend to opt for the windshield; short runs I go without.
