Yeah I had a blanket that fit the exhaust housing on the turbo for my pete. It was after I replaced the stock one with one designed specifically for my 6nz with the custom file I was running with fuel added directly to the file. It was a non wastegated turbo and you had to watch the pyrometer pulling a hill or downshift cuz it would pull it in 13th regardless. 690hp. Max stock was 525.
I can see where it might help keep the heat from radiating to other parts of the motor and I wouldn't mind keeping the jugs/oil a little cooler cuz I do run it hard most of the time (ok, all the time) but it's just not worth rotting the pipes for.

If anyone wants this 25' roll of black, pay the shipping.

Been there once or twice myself.

Been running the wrap on all three Sporties for years, no pipe rotting, but lots of hi temp spray and very few short runs. I believe that a lot of the rotted pipes are very cheap drag pipes, the more popular use it appears, but my 2 SuperTrapps and 1 Hooker 2:1’s have given me no issue with rotting or fractures. The Hooker, on the HotRod bike, has its heat shields installed over top. Maybe 300,000 miles combined. Don’t believe I’ve gained any horsepower but do notice less heat on the right lower leg. Others have commented that the exhaust seem a bit quieter?

Affirmative. 2009 1200 Nightster with V&H SIDE SHOTS. Wrapped then reapplied heat shields. Just had to change out the hose clamps for longer ones.
RIDE HARD.
GOD SPEED.

Hmm. Well I do have cheap drag pipes but I really only wanted to do from the jugs down to just past the bend so the heat shields covered it. If it cut down the heat enough on the motor/oil it might be worth looking into. Anyone have any idea how much cooler their motor/oil runs with it?

The video "tigger" provided pretty much says it all. It's an old school remedy for short pipes to keep the exhaust valves from cooling down too fast so they don't break, crack or warp. By short pipes I mean 12" to 24" long pipes they used to run on track bikes. Nowadays, some people want a nostalgic look and like the wrap look.

hummm, doesn't seem to be an issue with aircraft engines so what makes a glorified B&S engine diff? out of necessity one time, i had to run open spigots quite some distance, had exh in my lap, broken mount and lame design on spigot retention!

Sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by "spigot". Is it like the difference between a spanner and a wrench, a spigot and a ???. I've seen the spigot reference used in other threads too and still am unsure what it means. In North Dakota we hook up water-hoses to spigots. So please Enlighten me Oh Great One!

well if you want to get technical, a spigot is a devise that is used to control the flow of a fluid, as you said, the water hose. however, air is a fluid the same as exh gas and also can throw in solids, yes solids can be made to flow. the exh spigot is used to direct exh flow to another means, a pipe. if you used the term port, it is questionable aslo, is it just an opening or is it a place for ships to dock. logic follows logic, aka, if we were talking electrical, would it be far fetched to say we were referring to electrical when hydraulics were not mentioned?!?

I've used it in the past as an extra barrier between me and the exhaust, but that's about it.

For custom welded steel pipe experiments, wrap is not bad, like the look if done properly. Then again i am a bit Ratty.
