Thanks for the compliment. I'm pleased with how it's evolving, as well.

If I keep the factory wheels, the Pirelli tire you suggested is really the only option for the rear I've found, so it's good to know it's a decent tire. I'm thinking about sticking with the factory wheels just to stay tubeless... Changing a tube on the side of the road is an ordeal, whereas patching is a five minute job.

Now I understand, thanks. I didn't realize this was a weak spot on these bikes, but being under the frame it makes sense. I've got the factory skid plate from my GS I'm probably going to repurpose. Also Kuryakyn (or however it's spelled) now makes a skid plate for the Sporty that looks pretty cool.

Rode the bike to work today and it went along great. Only issue was the red security key came on. After a little Google-Fu, I concluded it was due to the LED turn signals I put on the bike.

I ordered a Badlands Illuminator from Amazon with free same day delivery and I've already installed it. It has the added bonus of making the turn signals brake/running lights, so that's nice.

The rear suspension is amazing. Better ride in bumps than any bike I've ever ridden... Very impressed with those Fox shocks.

I had picked up a KTM fender to put on the KTM front end I bought. Since that was a bust, I figured I would try the fender on the stock front end. I think it looks pretty cool!

I also bought some handguards and installed those. They'll just block some wind from the hands, they're definitely not the real deal like my GS, but they look pretty cool.

I like it, it's up for it's job I think! I think the front fender is a little short on the back of the wheel. Aren't you afraid that it will throw up mud, sand dirt or rain too much to your engine and in your face? Maybe a short one that only covers the back of the frontwheel and connects the two fork legs for stability?

The rear of the front fender interfered with that highway bar, which I definitely need due to my height. Also, I had concerns of it blocking the engine cooling.

My plan is to figure out a mesh to mount between the frame rails that will both block rocks and such as well as allow cooling air into the engine.

I'm certainly open to better suggestions!

I see. I meant a short piece of fender that covers the wheel, protects engine from dirt and does not block your cooling. I meant something like this:

These are valid concerns, but I've had the front of my frame caked in mud to where the fender was hitting and squeezing it out. Doesn't seem to affect performance or rideability. Recommend cleaning it though once you're back on the beaten path, else it's hard to get off later.

Fender doesn't do anything for stability, but a Superbrace does.

I have a Cycle-Electric 38A charging system, so the voltage regulator doesn't fit between the frame rails, and the fender would hit just like with your highway bars. I re-drilled the mounting holes on the fender to drop it tighter to the tire (about 3/4" clearance now). Sometimes I hear rocks jamming through it, otherwise fine.

There used to be an Arlen Ness plastic fender available, ugly but could easy be modified to look good, and hug tighter too. And lighter.

Not exactly, but close enough. Straighten out some of the curvy lines with a saw or something, before painting, it would work great. I was going to buy one this year but blew the budget on engine work and other stuff.
