Stopping the booze is a lot easier if you change your group of friends.

People, places and things. The people who showed up at yer door when you had booze are NOT your true friends. The places they hung out are NOT healthy places for you. The things they do are NOT conducive to YOUR recovery.
I wish you all the best my friend.
After 40 years of drinking and other things, I am loving my sobriety..........Daniel

cool - sounds like ya had your moment of clarity .. once ya know - enough was enough - it is easier to keep away from it
the motorcycle was one of my self rewards and incentives to stay away from beer & to have another sober hobby to invest my time and create a better me w/o alcohol

Had to sell everything I owned. Then I got sober and then somehow, smoking left me too. I rewarded myself with a Sportster :-) I always have cash and never want for ... really anything. Crazy shit this spiritual recovery business!

100% right, I had a cocaine problem in the 80s. Once I decided to quit(for me, habits are expensive and reward you nothing, except Sportsters ), I noticed how f'ed up my "friends" were. Made it even easier. Ditched them and moved on.(most are dead or lost forever now)
If your family and friends aren't helping bring you up, they are dragging you down.(everyone is either an Asset or a Liability, sounds harsh but its the short of it) Look for people who actually Edify you. They are the ones who will bring you up and help as you do the same for them. Good luck and Godspeed!

I swore off the booze and changed some friends - but I changed me the most - I envisioned who I saw myself as and reflected on how I was living - I aligned my behaviors to match my vision of my better self and I made the changes
still hang with my beer buddies I have known since elementary school - but the drinking buddies that were there just for party friends are long gone
people places things ....& angry , tired, lonely, and sad are all triggers until ya develop new and better coping mechanisms / reactions & desires - depending on your pov imho

I still hang with my highschool friends whenever we can get together. They are old enough now to understand I don't drink and even appreciate it. THe women still want to kick my ass but other than that...
