I have an 82 xlh up and running and piecing together a E84 frame-81 engine. I used 82 mounts for oil cooler/filter location.
I paid 750$ for frame/title 600$ for 81 xlh engine.. I think 1500 is right in the ball park myself.
82-E84 have oil filter front lower mount
L84-85 same lower mount-no filter nipple as oil filter move to generator spot L84 then under seat behind rear cyl on 85
82-85 all have square lug-hole for highway pegs (from what I have seen)
my understanding is the lower front mounts are all the same 77-85 when oil pump/frame changed. from what I have seen what varies is highway peg hole and oil filter nipple.
this is my learning curve buying wrong used parts at swap meet.
I would ASSume the 77-80 or L84-85 mounts would be the ones to use as it does not have oil filter nipple. chopper frame usually get a remote cooler/filter.

No, just wishing. sorry for hijacking the post. I am fixing to retire and will see just how far my 82 will ride without breaking down. just rolled 10,000 miles on a complete rebuild in 18' and it seems to have bugs all worked out now.
