Default Dytch/Axtel Cylinder Identification?

I'm collecting parts for a vintage dragster with 900 ironhead cases. I found this motor, but its not a stroker. Can anyone identify these cylinders and pistons. Bore is around 3.2". I will measure better shortly. Mounted on a 900 case with narrow studs, about 2.9or 74mm spacing. Three ring pistons. Cases are not notched. Pix follow. I'm thinking its a 1000cc aftermarket vintage big bore but welcome input. More to follow.

That's what I was thinking, especially with the oversize bore on a 900 lower. This is for a vintage XL dragster project, so its fairly important to use a stroked 900 motor rather than a stroked newer 1000. Here is what I have so far, the above Dytch Cylinders with 900 bottom end, a separate S&S 4 5/8​ crank and I am working on the pistons. Not sure what con rod to use. My lower end is not stroked as the Dytch set up was only 62.c.i., but the cases are bored. I have a line on stroker pistons once I confirm the bore. So my question is this, what con rods can I use. And can I simply use stroker pistons for the 1000? I hate to have any machine work done until I have identified and obtained everything I might need.

Your motor is not a stroker but your cylinders are not stock so you need to find out if they are stock length or longer. Stock is 5.330" from base gasket surface to head gasket surface. It could make a difference on what pistons you use. If stock length there are stroker pistons available that are designed to be used in 1000 sportsters that you could use. If longer you may need to consider something else.

As to the connecting rod question. Are you asking about length or brand. You don't want a shorter than stock rod with a stroker. S+S makes stronger but heavier rods but maybe stock rods will be good enough. Someone else can give an opinion on this.

Not sure what your line on pistons is, but JE manufactures stroker pistons for 900 and 1000 sportsters, intended for 4-5/8" stroke (again, assuming stock cylinder height, as needspeed points outs).

Prolly nothing more than a parade lap. It's Larry Nance's magnesium frame dragster, but the original motor was sold off years ago to a fellow the converted it back to gas, put in a four speed and blew the tranny out, or so I'm told that's what became of it.

Well that sure simplifies things. You're building a drag bike that doesn't need to go fast.

So stock connecting rods will be fine. Maybe use the ones that came with this motor?

I believe Cook ran with stock runs for around 70 passes and then swapped them out for more HD rods. If they work for 165+ fuelers they will work in this.
