My small scale is broken but maybe my ac scale will be sensitive enough. my Nitrous charging scale only goes to 10oz. so it wont work .. lol.

If you can, weigh all 4 simultaneously. Then divide it up.

No big deal, just curious compared to stock. Of course weight may be worth it to gain rigidity.

My AC scale works great the stock are 2.5 oz, and the steel tapered are 5.0 oz.
Heres pics on the scale.
I was going to try going lighter but the guys at Smith Brothers said in their experience with them it's best to stay with heavier steel tube for expansion being close to the cylinders and head so the valve adjustment stays more consistent... what a load right . LoL like they would know .
I mean all they do is pushrods how would they ..

A friend just sent this to me so here I'll pass it along.


“Weight is not as much of a concern as many people think it is,” says Manton. “The difference between a stock 5/16? diameter pushrod in a small block Chevrolet and a 7/16? to 3/8? taper pushrod represents a difference of approximately 2.5 percent of effective weight. This is because the pushrod is on the slow side of the valvetrain. The effective increase in weight between the two pushrods is small but provides a huge increase in valvetrain stability. The valve side of the valvetrain is the critical side where any weight savings will make marked improvements.”

The guys at Smith Brothers made these thicker than I wanted but they said would handle a 600lb 3 spring set up for high RPM if I needed.
I have never seen a 3 spring Iron Head. but hey I'm new to this right.
.. Maybe it's a new challenge on how to ruin cam bushings and bearings. LOL..

So I have a weird thing happening. I put the pushrods in and set lash and went away not thinking about much for a while. A couple days later was going to do some checking on other parts and was turning the crank and during intake stroke the rubber cap I have over the intake sucked inward then it pushed back out just a bit just after exhaust then when coming up on the rear cylinder it sucked in and then as I was turning it over it popped the rubber cap off the intake and it shot across the room..
So I put it back on the intake and spun it o er again and it did exactly the same. So I pulled the cam cover and checked my timing marks.all looks good to me.

What do you think .
