My experience is, admittedly, (and rather sadly) quite limited. My encounter had me thinking "rusty steel wool". Which did not, by the way, detract from the experience in any measurable degree.

I believe the early 79 sprocket goes with the early 79 mainshaft left thrust washer (35361-56) and the late 79-84 sprocket goes with the late 79-84 mainshaft left thrust washer (35216-79). They show up in the parts books at the same time (September 1979, 99451-80).
