Default Oil cooler simple routing suggestion (see drawing)

I have a 4 speed with a 5 speed oil pump.

Due to different design the return line from the oil filter pad is not directly in to the pump but under the engine.

I have a little oil cooler ( a small metal tube with fins) with an IN and a OUT inlets.

where it's best to place it? Between A and B (feed line) or
between C and D (return) ?

I would think either would be fine as long as its not restricting oil flow.

No restriction. It's basically a metal tube "U" shaped with fins.

Return line has higher pressure - I'd put it there.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

Do not agree. The return line has no restriction except from the bung on the tank. The scavenge pump also does not have to overcome the clearances in the oiling system. The pressure pump has to supply oil under pressure through those restrictions. The return line will carry oil heated by the engine operation though. So the oil temp in that line will be the hottest.

Same on mine. Feed line from pump to cooler, other side of cooler to tank return.
