does your bike lean far over on the kick stand or sit almost upright?

Thanks for the replies everybody. Mine is the "wire" needle. Setting the float height is different than all the others I have. Three bikes with a total of 9 Kiehin CVs! Lol. The float hangs from the top portion of the carb and as was mentioned the float height is critical yet pretty straight forward to set.

On this S&S the float is in the bowl section (you all know that, I know). To set the correct height (what is the measurement?) do you turn the bowl upside down and measure from the mating surface to the top of the float? I think I've seen 1/4' and 1/32". Even if it might not be too critical, what should it be?

I have a couple of intermediate and main jets on the way. This came with a 33 small and a 60 main. From what I've read the small jet is too big and the main jet is too small. I'm pretty sure the bike is stock displacement.

I think I have the mag timed. Front cyl on compression stroke, timing mark visible centered in the viewing hole, points just starting to open (when the cigarette pack cellophane is released. Old timer told me about this method). If this is correct is this full advanced? The bike came without the arm on the mag mounting area the advance/retard cable (still present and operable) attaches to. I know that's how you're supposed to retard it for stating. I'll try to find the correct hardware to get this working. But for now how many degrees retard for starting?

As far as the lean goes, I got the bike on blocks (level) presently for wheel bearing and brake work, and a million other things! The bike has been sitting for many years and is very neglected but pretty complete and not hacked up.

And about the "I got three other bikes" comment. I'm not trying to toot my own horn. Total value of the three is probably $6000. All good runners and dependable. I know them all like I knew my M-16 rifle. 1998 Triumph Sprint 900, 1980 Goldwing and a 2002 Ninja 250. Before these was a '79 Triumph Bonneville, a stock '68 FLH and a '79 kick only Super Glide (assembled parts) so I know how to kick.

Thanks again for the help. I really do appreciate it.

correct full advance.you can retard the mag you have now.make mark on upper and lower plates when advanced.loosen the nuts turn clockwise so the rear moves inward.you don't have to worry about how many degrees.move it close to as far as it will go.when it starts turn it ccw until the marks for advance line up,tighten the nuts.you'll get tired of doing this after awhile but you can see the difference it makes.

Thanks Shaky Dave. I'll try those sizes when the jets come in. And thanks bru about the timing. Any idea where I can get the cable operated manual advance hardware? I have the working left spiral grip and cable. I think I just need the arm that the cable attaches to.

Thanks guys for the jetting and plug info. I see S&S says float height should be between 1/2" and 3/16" from top of the float to the gasket surface. Waiting on the jets and filter element. I'll check back in then.

Yes I did bru and thanks. Don't know why I couldn't find it. I'll get better at the Sportster world as time goes on.
