Default speedometer

I have a noise coming from inside the speedometer on my 2006 XL883 Custom. Sounds like something inside has come loose and rattles when I hit bumps. It has not effected the function of the speed/odo meter, however. Is there an easy way to get a peek inside? Thank you!

Might be the reset knob? May also be an indicator led loose. Do yours appear to be functioning properly? The two screws on the backside of your speedo will release the unit from the frame, you can slide the part out of the mount and do a visual.

If you have to, take a small allen wrench and "gently" push it thru the condensation/weep hole (on the bottom in the back) to push the speedo face out of the mount.

the speedo has a rolled face ring that clamps the assy together. there are some who have unrolled it and then rolled it back, something i probably would not do, but has been done, search the forum or google.

I was able to remove the speedometer after removing two allen screws. That is not the issue. Its coming from somewhere else. Today I was able to change the drive pulley: used an impact gun and a piece of oak wood to hold the pulley in place. I also bought a torque wrench (at my age!) harbor freight. Trouble is, with the weather cooling off, don't know when I'll be able to take a test ride.
