Yes, if you make a stem you can retain OEM cups and balls w/ the 39mm.
Or if you want an “upgrade” you can purchase a Timken cup set to mount the stock 39mm stem.
Either way you need to fabricate a fork stop.
I have installed under the lower bearing a stop made from stainless plate trimmed into a winged fork stop.
I have also welded and shaped aluminum stops directly to the 39mm lower tree.
Also have welded a block to lower cup and pinned cup to frame.

Stalkie, thanks for the offer - I’ll give that some thought, but may want to keep the original front end for later use. If you’re interested in selling it instead, PM some pics over, but this is a winter project for me, just gathering information.
