We have a water jet at work, cuts pretty much anything, I have mentioned several times what a 3D printer could do, but no dice. They did drop a pretty penny on a seldom used Laser Engraver. WTF!

3d printing is great and getting better every year. My first machine was back 18 years ago.

Yeah, it was hard for us to get one...every month or so the features get better and the price drops. But after looking for a few years, we finally bit the bullet and got one. It's been a big assistance.

Waterjets are very cool....And Expensive! We out-source to a local company that has several waterjet machines...amazing to see them in action.

WOW! Can't even imagine what that cost was.

Hopefully some serious R&D got done with it to justify that many clams.

Company money, so not mine...however yes it was needed to go from prototype to production in a quarter of the time.

Metal printing is what we use now.

To get the scan lines smooth use acetone in heated pan. Enclose all in a vented box and suspend the part on a wire such as you painted it. Works well.

Understood.

We have only used ours for fitment testing, not ever needed them to look good...so we use "draft" mode 95% of the time, but they can come out amazingly finished in "top quality" mode. But I will pass this on to Devin.

We use ours to show customers a replica of the finished part. That way they can fit it into their assembly before I spend $5-10k on tooling. We just got a new higher definition one but it isn't hooked up yet.
