Default Gearing Help

Just picked up a 2000 Buell m2 Cyclone motor to swap into my 87 sportster 1100. I have to replace the front sprocket for one for chain. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good front sprocket size. Hoping to be able to cruise at 80 without being wound out like it was previously. It currently has the stock 48 tooth sprocket out back. Thanks for any help.

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on Gearing:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...o:transfinal01

You can look at those ratio numbers for a 5-speed STOCK model and make some adjustment up or down according to what you want for RPM at 80mph...

cruise at 80 without being wound out
Increasing the cruising speed to 88 at the same RPM means reducing engine torque in every gear by the same proportion.
Many people who do this find the slower 1st gear acceleration more annoying than the lower cruising RPM.

This is for four-speed Ironheads, but it might help:
