I considered that. I do like high test being ethanol free. Maybe give it a try. It is sold around here, at some gas/conveince stations.

There is a difference between states on whether premium gas specifically has ethanol in it or not. Or, more correctly, whether it's required to have it in it. ... This is because they have to use the ethanol to raise the octane level of their gasoline blend in order to satisfy the higher octane requirements of premium.

Around me, only 2 stations have pure gas and one of them has 87 octane and 91 octane both ethanol free. I run the 91 pure gas myself.
It's up to the station owner what he's gonna carry but premium does not mean ethanol free.
But I live in corn country so. There's an ethanol plant 15 miles away that I deliver anhydrous ammonia to. We also deliver fuel and the different blends from station to station and bulk plant to bulk plant is mind boggling.

Well like some people said it might be timing related. Well yes it is and
changing to premium is the fasted way to tell, without tools.
Ethenol or not, run premium.

My completely stock 2006 883C would sometimes diesel on shutdown, take forever to warm up and run without a hiccup and would occasionally stumble while droning on the freeway regardless of season, summer or winter. Some folks on this forum who experienced the same problem were able to get their bikes to run correctly by shimming the needle. At the suggestion of someone who's input I value I opted for the N65 needle sold by J&P Cycles and to my surprise it resolved my bike's issues.

The timing's not likely to be 'out' on a stock rubbermount, since it isn't adjustable*.

*: At least not without programming the ICM/ECM.

run-on, dieseling or whatever name you want to call it occurs from advanced timing, too lean of a mixture, too hot a cylinder , retarded timing , too high a idle rpm.

First thing I did when I bought this bike was get rid of the dynojet stuff and put the N65C in.
It does have a lean spot just off idle tho. That's why I shimmed it. It's a longer needle. Takes longer to hit the taper otherwise.

The bike dieseling after shut off is from a carbon deposit on top of your pistons, it burns like ember's and ignites unspent fuel after engine shut off, you need to run an additive such as seafoam in fuel, not a fuel line cleaner, but a carbon burning additive and run the shit out of it for a while
