They certainly can be a bitch !
I went to the thinner flanges (03 and earler) at one point which helped.
Seems getting the rear flange started first helped.

Thanks Rocketman. I did not know about thinner flanges. Earlier I had been trying to follow V & H installation instruction which said "install heat shields on pipes loosely before you mate the pipes to the exhaust ports/studs" After that failed for all morning I thought just remove the heat shields and try to get the pipe in there with flanges and bolts mating up.

And that made a world of difference, I have 4 nuts on 4 studs and will just have to get the heat shields on at the end of this job
