I rode across country with no gas gauge. Just watch the miles go by. That way, even once you're familiar with the bike and trust the gauge, you have a good understanding of what "feels" right. Rough ranges are 100 miles for a 3 gallon, 125 miles for a 4 gallon tank. Hit that number, look for gas. Ride like a hooligan or in city traffic, maybe a bit sooner. Highway cruising, maybe a bit more.

I'd just be careful not to lug the engine or go above 80mph for the first few hundred miles.

Check the tires. If they're original replace them. Also check all rubber parts for cracking, brittleness, etc.

Check out your circuit breakers (mostly for corrosion) under the seat and mounted to the fender.

I've always thought the vibration rumors were exaggerated. It's usually caused by worn out riser bushings.

Its kind of hidden under the wiring harness but, it should be there. Might have just lost the stem.

Run it until you hit reserve, then you'll know, I could get 25 to 30 miles on reserve when I had a stock tank, and by all means DO NOT do any mods to the R that would be heresy............................................ .....JKG mod away.
