Default Starter ring gear

I had a few teeth on the ring gear broke off last year so when I had everything apart getting the trans done by R&D motorsports, I replaced the ring gear. What a PITA that was! Started having starter issues again and finally it wouldn't engage at all! Pulled the primary off and holy sh#@ the ring gear is wasted! Anyone know what is wrong? Replaced the original starter with an All balls racing starter. What could I have done wrong with the installation? Been a couple years since I replaced the original. I am cleaning up the mess and not wanting it to happen again! I could use some help please. Thanks
